![]() Sony Xperia XZ Premium selfie samples Picture Compare Tool When it gets dark, however, quality takes a serious dip just like the main camera. However, we're quite happy with how detailed selfies come out and we appreciate the excellent dynamic range. The images produced by it are somewhat noisy. It's based on a 13MP sensor (1/3.06") with a f/2.0 lens.īear in mind that in Intelligent Auto the camera seems to have some sort of beutification enhancement constantly on so if you don't fancy the effect it has on your face, you might have to switch to Manual mode for your selfies. On the front of the Xperia XZ Premium is the same selfie camera found on the original XZ and XZs, but this time it features autofocus. Those turned out very good and you won't need a tripod for any dusk shooting - the XZ Premium is well equipped to handle those scenes. We also snapped a few dusk samples, hand-held. Low-light shots taken on a tripod (Intelligent Auto) The first shot was taken at 0.8s shutter speed, which was decided automatically by the algorithm. Manual mode, handheld, with lower ISO - 160, 250, 500, 640Īnd here are some samples shot with the Intelligent Auto mode and the phone mounted on a tripod. And if you do, the Intelligent Auto will actually do a great job at getting a nice picture without requiring you to figure out the manual settings. ![]() But if you want to use lower ISO and shutter speed, you should have the XZ Premium stabilized. Switching to Manual mode allows you to choose a lower ISO setting, adjust the focus, the shutter speed, and the exposure compensation. Sony Xperia XZ Premium low-light samples (Intelligent Auto) There is enough detail, and while the ISO could have been lower (and thus the noise levels), the pictures turned out very pleasant and with nice contrast even when zoomed at 100%. Then we pointed the Xperia XZ Premium towards buildings and the camera handled the scenes very well. Now it's not a terrible performance by any means, but it's just lagging behind the vast majority of competitors. The samples are hardly inspiring, with plenty of detail lost to heavy-handed noise reduction, which ironically isn't doing all that good of a job of masking the noise itself. Being better at some things while worse at others. Our first batch of samples shows how the Xperia XZ Premium performs at capturing different landscapes scenes at night when you shoot hand-held, using the onscreen shutter to reduce shake as possible, and relying on Intelligent Auto mode. I would say Xperia's don't flat out have the best camera, but they are very comparable to competition. I don't notice it, but make sure to turn "Correction for image distortion" on since Sony uses a wide angle lens you will have a little natural distortion and this will help correct that. You can see this in comparisons for the XZP where they put it on a tripod and slow the shutter as much as possible the images are way better. If you are able to reduce the ISO and slow down the shutter speed you'll get better images. ![]() Predictive Capture is up to you, if the phone deems it necessary it will take 4 pictures and allow you to select which one you think is best, it does not always take 4 pictures.īe careful of bumping up the ISO too high this is what creates noise in an image, you are going to get noise in low light images especially since Xperia's still lack OIS. Also enable HDR and I would recommend object tracking if you are taking pictures of moving objects. You'll be surprised how changing a couple things just a tiny bit can make a big difference.Įdit: If you just want to use Auto try to at least go into the color and brightness settings under the options which will allow you to change the color profile of the images. Auto will take good images, but knowing how to use manual will pretty much always give you better images. Experiment and learn how to use manual mode, it will take you a few tries to start getting good images, but once you get it down they will look a lot better.
